/The Ultimate Cape May Beach Guide
If you’re looking for beaches with reasonable beach tag fees and clean water, then Cape May is for you! Cape May Beaches are safe, well-kept, and surrounded by locally-owned businesses. Located on the souther tip of New Jersey, the hoof-shaped spit of land offers visitors an array of beaches to choose from. But which are the best? Check out our Cape May Beach Guide to discover the top four Cape May beaches that are as divine as they are diverse.
1. Cove Beach
Known as a family-friendly beach location for years to come and the surfing there is always popular. The Cove Beach is known to change from year to year; one year there could be a jetty and the next year a huge tide pool. The ocean horizon seen from this popular beach is completely unobstructed, allowing for a panoramic view of the sky as the sun dips below the horizon, making this beach a popular Cape May wedding spot. Locals are known to arrive after 4 PM once the crowds have disappeared to enjoy the sun and the natural attractions that the beach has to offer including the view of the famous Cape May Lighthouse.
2. Convention Hall Beach
Looking to spend even more time at the beach once the sun has gone down? Take the family to a movie viewing on Convention hall Beach. Movies are played every Thursday in July and August starting at 8:30 PM. You can simply bring your beach chair, blanket, cooler with dinner etc.
3. Decatur Street Beach
Decatur Street is known to have the best of both worlds. Besides the beautiful and relaxing beach there are plenty of nearby restaurants and bars when you decide you need a break from the sun. Cabana’s, Carney’s, Martini Beach and the Fin Bar are all located just steps from the Decatur Street beach. It’s also a favorite spot for some of the younger locals, who end up going from the beach right to happy hour. Swimming, boating and sunbathing are popular activities here, and lifeguards are present to help keep an eye on things.
4. Dog-Friendly Higbee Beach
Higbee Beach is a wildlife management area owned by New Jersey. Beach is bounded by wild dunes covered in native New Jersey scrub bushes. Higbee beach has no lifeguards or bathrooms, and it can practically disappear at high-tide. With no lifeguards and submerged hazards Higbee’s is not the best swimming beach on the island. But it’s a great place to get away from the big crowd and let your dog run loose. Dogs are allowed on the boardwalk during the months of November to March.
